Tour de France letdown
I missed the first few days of the Tour de France because I was away, and what do I come back to find? Four of the main contenders for the yellow jersey, Basso, Ullrich, Mancebo and Vinokourov, did not start because of an ongoing doping investigation. That's really disappointing, although I don't yet know who I'm disappointed in. This could shape up to be worse than the Festina scandal in 1998, as it implicates top riders from several different teams. There may be some nice moments in this year's competition, but this takes some of the fun out of it.
[Update: Oddly, this has turned out to be the most interesting Tour de France I've ever seen. Greg LeMond calls it the best of all time.]
